What is Reverse Cycle Ducted Air Conditioning and Why is it The Best Choice?
Air conditioning works to improve indoor air quality and to create a comfortable environment. There’s often a lot of words and jargon used in this space, such as reverse cycle, heat pump, and refrigerated air con. So let’s answer the question. What is reverse cycle air conditioning? Reverse cycle air conditioning refers to a refrigeration cycle that can provide both heating and cooling solutions. This is done by reversing the refrigeration cycle so that the system can heat in winter and cool in summer. The entire system is efficient, adaptable, and flexible. There are a few pointers to know about reverse cycle air conditioning. Such as, how it functions, some advantages and why you should buy your reverse cycle air conditioner from Ford & Doonan, right here in Western Australia.
HOW IT FUNCTIONS
How does a ducted reverse cycle air conditioner work? Fundamentally, a reverse cycle ducted air conditioning system works by the simple principle of heat absorption and the refrigeration cycle. The refrigeration cycle can be mapped in four areas.
- The evaporator: The process begins with the liquid refrigerant entering the cycle through the evaporator.
- The compressor: which compresses low temperature, low pressure refrigerant from the evaporator. The compressor converts this refrigerant to a high pressure, high temperature gas for the condenser.
- The condenser: Now that the refrigerant is in a high temperature, high pressure gas state, the condenser uses a fan to move air to cool and liquefy the refrigerant gas. From here, it’s onto the evaporator’s refrigerant control valve.
- Expansion valve: This valve turns the high pressure liquid refrigerant from the condenser and reduces the pressure to create a low temperature, low pressure refrigerant state. And from the valve change the refrigerant state, absorbing heat, as it passes through the evaporator.
What makes this entire system a “cycle” is how the refrigerant flows through the evaporator. After the evaporator, the refrigerant returns to the condenser to repeat the entire cycle.
The term “Reverse cycle” is applied as the flow of refrigerant reverses depending on mode of operation, cooling or heating
ADVANTAGES
COST
You may think that the reverse cycle air conditioning systems are costly to run. In-fact, a modern reverse cycle air conditioner can see efficiency improvements of 35% when compared to some ducted air conditioners from just 10 years ago. In cases where a room heater and an evaporative air conditioner, for example, is being used to maintain room temperatures, a reverse cycle ducted air con does those two functions in one. In other words, you don’t have to purchase a separate heater. By that same token, during those summer months when it’s very hot outside, simply select the cooling mode to get relief from the heat. Overall, the simple function of a reverse cycle air conditioning system is beneficial, affordable and efficient to run.
AIR PURIFICATION
A ducted reverse cycle air con fitted with Ford & Doonan’s clean air filter pack allows for a higher quality of air to pass through the return air grille. The clean air filter pack, is standard from Ford & Doonan, and provides superior filtration when compared to a more traditional media type washable filter. Better air purification leads to reduced dust, pollutants and contaminates that we could breathe. This is due to the unique pleated design, which also allows for the lowest pressure drop and requires less fan power to pass the same quantity of air through the system, thereby reducing running costs.
These clean air filter packs last for around 12 months in residential applications, and are a simple process to remove and install a replacement filter. They’re available at all 12 Ford & Doonan stores.
BEST OF BOTH WORLDS
Furthermore, reverse cycle air conditioning is an excellent choice for the Western Australian climate. This is due to the heating and cooling functionality. The heating functionality allows for a rise in room temperature and cooling functionality works perfectly for our summer. Due to this, temperature regulation is much easier and comfortable for end users and switching between these modes is as easy as clicking a button.
Ford & Doonan supply a wide variety of reverse cycle ducted air conditioners in Perth that suit a variety of budgets. These air conditioning systems are the best choice if you’re looking for complete climate control in your home. However, comfort doesn’t just stop here. Additionally, reverse cycle ducted air conditioners also feature inverter technology. An inverter, in air conditioning, means that the speed of the compressor can be adjusted to control the refrigerant (gas) flow rate, thereby consuming less power.
FEATURES OF A REVERSE CYCLE DUCTED AIR CONDITIONER
Continual advancements in technology have brought a breadth of innovation within the air conditioning space. At the moment, there are a variety of smart home air conditioning controllers available on the market. The AirTouch 4 controller is one air conditioning controller that is also “smart”. What this means is that you can use its Android operating system to install apps from the Google Play Store, connect your smart lights, garage door and reticulation system. Therefore, creating a whole home hub right at your fingertips. Oh, and did we also mention you can now talk to your air conditioner? “Alexa, lower the temperature to 22 degrees.”
